Review
The Limpsfield girls certainly found their voice and it has all the urgency, immediacy and sheer vibrancy of teenage life... I hope that M's journey will help girls with autism making that same journey through their early teen years to find themselves and believe in themselves as well as help others understand and believe in them. -- Robert Pritchett, Director Autism Accreditation, The National Autistic Society This inspiring and touching novel really gives you a feel of what living with autism and anxiety is like. 13-year-old M lives a tough life as she struggles coping with anxiety in everyday situations, most of all at school. She describes anxiety as being a beast that stops her from living a normal life. All M wants to do is be like all her friends who she classifies as normal. With her later diagnosis of autism we see M start to open up and talk to people about her problems as she copes with her diagnosis. If you have autism, if you are a sufferer of anxiety, or you know someone who is, this is a perfect read for you. This novel helps you to realise that you are not alone and people DO understand exactly what you are going through. As a sufferer of anxiety this book made me feel like there was light and hope at the end of the tunnel, and with a little support and guidance with life's inevitable ups and downs we CAN have a glorious and fulfilled life. -- Jasmine, age 16 I am utterly in love with this book. Part secret journal, part Perks of Being a Wallflower, part every girl, part just-like-me (yep, I have always seen letters as having personalities!), M is for Autism is a secret gem. We all need to know, after all, that there IS a "Sisterhood of the Spectrum". And I'm proud to say that M fits in perfectly! -- Jennifer Cook O'Toole, author, autism advocate, and CEO of Asperkids M is for Autism invites us into the world of a young woman with autism and allows us to view it through her lens. What an intriguing world we enter. This is a book to be read by everyone! -- Professor Barry Carpenter, OBE, PhD, University of Worcester What an insightful read! Thanks Limpsfield Grange for sending M is for Autism into my world. Recommended to teenagers and parents. -- Alis Rowe, aka The Girl with the Curly Hair I like the book M is for Autism because it is interesting to see how different but how the same a girl with autism is. I rate this book 5/5 because it is interesting, funny and exciting. -- Eve, age 8

An Excellent Insight
By Book Gannet
This book is wonderful. M has such a strong, vibrant voice that makes her feelings and experiences so clear that it’s impossible not to connect with her. The characterization of her anxiety as a beast that creeps up on her is so evocative and the way it makes so much sense – to her and the reader – why she feels that way is a real eye-opener for me (as someone who does not have autism).

I also really enjoyed having M’s mother’s viewpoint a couple of times, revealing her bafflement and inability to help her daughter, even though she loves her so much. The difficulties she faces and the fight she goes through simply to get a diagnosis for M helps add context to M’s own daily challenges and I loved having both perspectives. The counselor sessions were also really good for presenting and explaining things so that everyone can understand why M feels the way she does and find ways to help her cope with the sometimes overwhelming aspects of life.

In all this is a great, quick read that offers understanding and acceptance for those on the autism spectrum, as well as an insight and explanations for those who aren’t. It’s smart, well written and accessible and gives a clear voice to those who might sometimes struggle to make themselves heard. My only slight problem was that the end was so abrupt – I would have liked perhaps a little more about where M went from there, but the overall feeling was positive, so that was good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and recommend it highly, both for those who need a voice and for those who simply want to understand. This book will help you.

Amazing Insights Into This Girl's Thoughts and Feelings
By Grateful Grandma
M is for Autism is a book about a teenage girl with Autism written by teenage girls with Autism. This is an amazing book that shares daily trials of a girl with autism to give us a realistic understanding of what she feels and is trying to deal with. If you've ever wondered about the struggle someone with autism is dealing with, take a peek into the thoughts of M.

With complete honesty, she narrates the daily trials of desiring to be normal, feeling overwhelmed and anxious about unexpected situations, and trying to figure out who she is. M's experiences at school and home are descibed through her self-talk, meetings with her counsellor and her thoughts. She talks about anxiety and how it makes her feel when others tell her to calm down, it is not that easy. She has difficulty making friends, keeping the ones she has and dealing with her mother. It talks about the disintegration of the family due to one parent not being able to deal with their child. Some of the comments almost made me cry.

This book is appropriate for older children, teens, and adults - I highly recommend it to all three groups. It is a quick read, but will have a deep impact on how the reader views those who struggle with Autism. I liked the way this book was written from both M's view point and that of her mother's. I think we need more books like this. In the forward is says the the book is especially written for girls however, I believe that boys would also get a lot out of this story. Because more boys are diagnosed with autism than girls it is good that this book is out there so more people are aware that girls can have autism. I believe that all educators should read this book themselves to familiarize themselves with this higher functioning autism as unfortunately there were many characters in the book and in real life that do not understand and therefore not know how to react or treat these students.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Explains how girls with autism feel.
By David's Wife
This is a fiction story about a 13 year old girl with autism. The book was written by an author in collaboration with a group of autistic girls who go to a school for girls with autism. The girls did all the artwork. Most of the story is told from the point of view of the girl, who has nicknamed herself "M", but parts are also told from her mother's point of view. M explains how difficult it is to be in crowds and loud situations and how confusing it can be and how she really wants to be normal, but her anxiety makes it hard to cope. I think that children, parents and teachers will all benefit from reading this book. It does a great job of explaining how girls with autism feel. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.
