Melanie White is first and foremost – a cancer survivor. She is not a doctor, a nutritionist or medical professional of any kind. She is however a reader and a researcher who has taken an active interest in health and nutrition since her Non- Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis several years ago. Many of the references she came across were very good but she found them to be quite long and detailed. You may not have the time, energy or the inclination to read dozens of books on nutrition and diabetes. This eBook is a compilation of the best material she found and is intentionally short for that very reason.

As a health nut (self-described), I constantly feed myself with information to keep myself healthy. I read…a lot. So I seek books that are succinct, yet contain the information I want. This is the book to get for diabetes. The topic can be complicated; this book is a more or less overview (with just enough detail) of diabetes that is easily digestible. The book, which by the way is well-written, covers what laymen need to know about type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It further covers prediabetes, which I learned from the book does not mean you WILL get diabetes, yet it is still dangerous as it can lead to heart disease. The book quotes studies that state (I did not know this), that diabetic patients tend to develop foot problems (so, take care of your feet!). The author covers recommended foods for diabetics. This is not an in-depth book on all things diabetes, and that is what I liked about it. I did not want all the science; I wanted the fundamentals and how to avoid getting diabetes.... Finally, as a bonus, there are sample and uncomplicated recipes for diabetics that I will try just b/c they are easy to prepare and look great to eat!

This is a very good book! I was looking for more information regarding diabetes and prediabetes, and I just happened upon Melanie's book. She provided a lot of information that I was unaware of, and even included a sample menu...complete with recipes! (I'm not a skilled cook by any stretch of the imagination--which may be why I was just diagnosed with prediabetes--but I think I'll at least be able to follow the directions for some of what she suggested. Bottom line, if you have just been diagnosed, or even if you just eat a lot of sugary foods (GUILTY!) I highly recommend you start here...I think you'll be glad you did. Good job, Melanie!

About the Author
Hi, my name is Melanie White. I've had an interest in natural health solutions for several years now. Back in 2002 I had a wake up call of sorts when I was diagnosed and then treated for non Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). That experience truly changed my life and prompted me to research and read as many books on natural health that I could find. Books on food, lifestyle choices and natural remedies for common ailments. Many of these references were very good but I found them to be quite long and detailed. Recently I decided I wanted to write short eBooks in order to share some of these great ideas I've come across. My hope is to create a series of easy to read health related books that would truly help those of you looking for some quick solutions. Perhaps you just don't have the time or patience to read through several hundred pages of material. My books can be considered starting points so I encourage you to keep digging once you find a topic of interest. Other books on common ailments and conditions are in the works. Stay tuned.

The ABC's of diabetes broken down into a simple and effective read.

A wonderful book for anyone wanting to learn more about the disease.

Food Can Be Your Cure

Written from the personal viewpoint of a cancer survivor, this book describes how food can be our medicine and our cure.

The author opens with an overview of the different types of diabetes, as well as what to look for in your own health in terms of pre-diabetic symptoms. As we all know, a healthy lifestyle is the key to preventing disease, and this book reinforces that well-known fact. Many of us know it, but far fewer of us are ready to create the habits that will lead to health.

Have your blood sugar levels checked.

The book doesn’t stop there, though. The author offers hope to those who have already been given a diagnosis of Diabetes. Once again, the true healing lies in our food. There is even one chapter dedicated to ‘Meal Planning’ and another outlining specific recipes to heal your body and reverse your diabetes.

Many with Diabetes can also benefit immensely from delving into the mind-body connection, and learning how to truly relax and become mindful for the benefit that it will create for your body.

Very helpful book. Highly recommend.
