Intimate and Informative

This is the story of one man's odyssey through his battle with MS. Mr. Morowitz invites us to join him on his journey, so that we can benefit from his process and discoveries. He shares his ups and downs, what has worked for him and what hasn't, his successes and failures. He is fully open and candid about everything he has experienced over his 14 years (and counting) of fighting back against MS.
As someone newly diagnosed with the same type of MS as Mr. Morowitz (Primary Progressive MS), I learned a lot from his book. And I also feel like I am not alone on my journey. I have a kindred spirit. Knowing that Mr. Morowitz walks 6 miles per day and doesn't use a cane, gives me hope. I can only walk a block or two without a cane and not much further than 1/2 mile with one.
However, it is the meta point that is the most important aspect of this book: those of us with MS are responsible for our own journey and our own healing. The medical community can provide guidance and advice, but MS manifests differently for everyone and everyone reacts differently to different treatments. We have to know our bodies, discern what does and doesn't work for us and be the director of our own recovery. It is up to us.
I have had PPMS for 8 years, but was only recently diagnosed. Over the past 7 years, I have gone to 3 neurologists, each more expert than the previous. I have had many MRIs which showed nothing of concern. Each neurologists told me in their own way that I didn't have a physical problem. It was psychological. Meanwhile, my ability to use my limbs has been degrading steadily. Finally, a neurologist ordered a Lumbar Punch. I have 5 O-bands. It is not psychological.
Now that I know what I have for the first time, I am taking steps to resolve my condition. I am on the Swank diet -- as is Mr. Morowitz -- and have seen some improvement already after only 5 weeks. I am also taking numerous supplements. No pharmaceuticals so far.
I am grateful to Mr. Morowitz for sharing his story, so that the rest of us can benefit and also know that we are not alone on our journey. I recommend this book for anyone who has been newly diagnosed with MS (or knows someone who has) and anyone who is struggling with their own recovery process. It will give you hope, ideas and a kindred spirit.

Well Written & Very Motivational

This story is heartfelt and sincere. Eli is a truly inspirational person and deserves 5 stars for this well written and organized read. I highly recommend it whether you have multiple sclerosis or not because this uplifting experience will motivate you to push harder in times of hardship and in your daily life. A cancer survivor myself, it's great to see someone else overcoming a trial with their health. This man's struggle will inspire you to get through your own. 5 stars!

Extremely Inspirational, Easy-to-Read Novel

This is one of the most inspiring reads for those affected by some sort of disease, whether it be MS or otherwise. While I have not personally had a medical condition, the book made me think of loved ones and friends who have had to struggle against chronic disease. The story about a man who has overcome his condition differently and more courageously than most, this book has lessons that everyone might gain. I especially liked the author's ability to tell the story through a lens which takes heed of family, shared grief, and turning pain into opportunity. It is a book you can't put down, and can finish in a few hours of reading. Well worth the time.
