About the Author
Sherry Lynn Harris had the pain and privilege of caring for her mother from the beginning diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, through eighteen years, until her death. Harris learned by trial and error many valuable lessons regarding how to take on the reverse role of caring for a parent. She realized that her experience was not unique and that so many baby boomers are needing to adapt to the issue of the parent becoming the child. What Harris learned while caring for her mother was life changing and she felt it vital to share these discoveries “to inspire and lighten the load of others going through this challenging experience.” Further support may be found in listening to the “Serenity Visualizations” CD Harris created (at AlzCareSupport.com) which can transport one from stress to peace in just a few minutes. Practical Guidance Through the Maze of Mind and Heart

Sherry Lynn Harris vividly and lovingly shares her own experiences and turmoil in this remarkable guide and memoir, providing insight and practical guidance for anyone treading this heartbreaking and challenging road. I have seldom been as moved and enlightened, and unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone who has an aging parent, whether still in the bloom of health or not, because, sooner or later, most adult children are going to have to deal with many of the issues presented. Particularly helpful are the final five chapters, which present the pitfalls and provide the guidance needed for anyone dealing with end of life issues on behalf of another. I wish I had read this book a month earlier - those last chapters would have been an enormous help and consolation for our family.

Heartfelt Exhaustion

This is the story of Sherry Lynn Harris and her mother steady decline as Alzheimer’s took it toil and led to her death. The book is a very realistic and clear explains the emotional, physical, and financial obstacles become a full time job for caretakers and advocate for these patients. As we travel along with the author and her mother, we learn of options available, the bureaucratic documentation, legal responsibilities, and outright difficulties accessing competent care. This is a must read for anyone just assuming the role of caretaker or staff that work with those suffering with Alzheimer’s.

A must read hands on for caregivers

In this moving account of a daughter's care of her mother for 18 years, Harris gives real information and support. Written in an easy to understand and compassionate script are answers to questions about Alzheimer's care. The poem in the second chapter written by the 9 year old grandson is especially touching. This is a subject we hesitate to look at but must. If you are not moved to tears and a lump in your throat you have missed a truly remarkable experience. I'm going to read it again!
