Moving Toward Health and Freedom is a wonderful book for those new to yoga, laying a foundation that can support many years of unfolding practice and exploration. It's also a great resource for experienced students and teachers, without being too big or too complicated to be practical. Much more than a compilation of poses and techniques, it's a coherent and cohesive guide to the vast possibilities for well-being and awareness that remain concealed from many of us in today's society. Drawn from the author's deep experience, it rethinks the yoga tradition and connects it in a timeless way to the present, to the practitioner in his or her body today, at every level. Open the book anywhere and you will find something helpful, from well-thought out sequences to therapeutic poses and exercises to inspiring passages and beautiful images. It has been near me in my practice since I first bought it. With Moving Toward Health and Freedom, you get the seed, the trees, and the forest.

Moving Toward Health & Freedom is an excellent easy-to-use and understand book that can be quite easily followed. Between the useful charts and diagrams and the excellent drawings of the yoga positions, the user can take her or himself through a yoga practice at home. My favorite part is the Table of Contents which corresponds to pages for each area of the body, giving the user easy to understand guidelines for positions - paired with very clear drawings of each position.

This book wasn't what I was expecting. I learned some things which have come in useful for bodily self-awareness especially but I think in general it's just not content which is suitable for a book. Mr. Bogart should make a video series as a companion to the book. He's done a really good job for written media and you'll get plenty of value from it if you're interested in healing yoga techniques. This is not a guide for how to do yoga.
