About the Author
Patricia Peters Martin, Ph.D., is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Georgetown University and holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Purdue University. Dr. Martin has done research work at National Institute of Mental Health studying bi-polar disorder and at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development studying the effects of early environment on child development. She has taught and supervised graduate and undergraduate psychology students at Purdue University, Springfield College, and Bay Path University. She has counseled thousands of people in her 35 years of clinical practice in New England and the Midwest. Her patient population includes children and families, individual adults, teenagers and couples. Dr. Martin also leads group psychotherapy with women who have been in abusive relationships. She has been married 36 years and is the mother of four children and grandmother of three. She lives in Western Massachusetts. Helene DeMontreux Houston, M.S., APRN, obtained degrees at Columbia and Boston Universities, and has practiced psychiatric nursing for 46 years in metropolitan Springfield, Massachusetts. While at Columbia University School of Nursing she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau. She has provided counseling and medication management to thousands of people in a largely underserved population. She has spoken widely on the efficacy of psychotropic medication and been a guest commentator on the local public television affiliate. While at Baystate Medical Center, Helene taught medical students (Tufts University) and physician’s assistant students (Springfield College) and participated in multiple continuing medical educational programs, seminars, and grand rounds. In addition to psychopharmacology, Mrs. Houston has specialized in trauma work, mood disorders, codependency, and women’s health. She has been married for 47 years and is the mother of two daughters and recently a first-time grandmother. She lives in Western Massachusetts.

This book tells us that we all do the best we can

I was lucky enough to follow this book from manuscript to print :) !
I felt little parts of me, friends, and family were somehow sprinkled throughout these touching short stories.
This book tells us that we all do the best we can, with the best we have, on the best and worst of days.
These women (and the co-authors) are truly inspirational.

AMAZING, ENCOURAGING, EMOTIONAL AND DOWN RIGHT INSPIRING!!!!

What an amazing book written by amazing therapists..one that I'm sure will help many through the toughest times of their lives. I can speak from personal experience that Dr. Patricia Martin helped me to survive the most heartbreaking of times. She helped me to stay strong through it all and without a doubt helped me to achieve my goal...one that seemed impossible to attain, but I did it with her never ending encouragement and support...thank you Dr. Martin from the bottom of my heart!!!
