About the Author
The assumption that I hear the most from patients about psychologists is that they have chosen the field of psychology because they too are looking for answers. Even so, for decades it has been taboo for psychologist to openly reveal and discuss the very struggles patients are often referring to. Patients tend to forget that psychologists are human too. The expectation is that, in a field nurtured by selflessness, the patient always comes first. This, at times, comes at the expense of the clinician. M. J. Rex speaks about her journey toward a career as a forensic psychologist. Her unique perspective gives not only an inside look at how personal and professional life can become entwined but how this process of entanglement actually helps to mold her into a more experienced and relatable clinician. Depressed People Make Me Sleepy also touches on the almost unspoken reality that there are mentally ill clinicians providing above-average treatment. M. J. very openly talks about her grief and loss, depression, overwhelming anxiety, family discord, her relationship with food, anger, abuse, and her role as a female throughout her life and career. More importantly, however, she manages to explain, sometimes in extremely vivid detail, how these tragedies became the foundation and basis for her success and personal growth.

She gives great understanding that even mental health professionals

Amazingly Captivating!!
This book had me hooked from the start! She gives great understanding that even mental health professionals; who are known to have all the tools in the world to help others, may struggle themselves. They too are human. However, she makes it clear that with great strength, courage, and belief in oneself...all things are possible! Definitely a must read and worth it! Can't wait for the next book "Special"!

HONEST
By Selena Hicks
As a professor who has studied Psychology, I believe All psychology students should be required to read DEPRESSED PEOPLE MAKE ME SLEEPY. MJ's bitter honesty regarding her own personal struggles to reconcile past and present pain, while professionally using such hurt as a boulder, on which she trampled - using it to relate to her patients and soar to unimaginable heights!

This book is amazing!!
By Nikki
The author does an excellent job relating to both professionals in the field and those we serve. I too am a psychologist and can relate to the inner struggles of trying to sort through my own problems, while trying to help others through theirs. The writer takes you through her journey of trials and tribulations that have led to her own self actualization. It's almost as if you are watching her go through her own therapeutic journey and in the end conceptualize herself. Her raw honesty about her own mental health struggles make her relatable. For those outside of the mental health field, she illustrates a side to professionals that clients rarely see. It is assumed that we have it all together and our life is picture perfect. She bravely takes off the mask and allows you to see the woman behind the scenes. This book will have you crying and laughing throughout the book. As a professional, you finish the book feeling like you've watched a client arrive. As a lay person, you finish the book recognizing that psychologist are real people with real problems. It is their journey that enables them to empathize and help others. This was a great read that I read in one sitting. I did not want to put the book down. For this reason, I give this book five stars! Looking forward to her next book, Special, that she gives us a sneak peak of at the end of this book!
