The author successfully explains what bipolar disease is, in a clear and concise manor. My brother was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in his 30’s. I had no idea until reading this book the struggles he deals with. Thank you Dr. Golden for opening my eyes. Education is the only way to chip away at the social stigma’s associated with this disease. I applaud your commitment. Robyn Herman

For anyone wondering about bipolar disease symptoms, depression, or manic episodes for yourself or a loved one, this book is a Godsend. You can sense that the words come from a caring physician who has struggled with this disease himself. I highly recommend this read.

A physician who heals himself and others

I found this book to be extremely educational (deeply and thoughtfully organized presentation of information about mental diseases in general, and affective disorders in particular); and extremely inspirational (his advocacy for persons with bipolar disease and their families comes from and touches the heart). Dr. Golden embodies the ideal of the caring physician--for decades making his scientific and clinical skills in treating physical disorders available to thousands of patients, and now making his care for the souls of his patients available to a wider audience. The man is a helper who has deepened his help and expanded the recipients of his help through physical distresses to the sufferings of the soul. He reaches out several times, through the presentation of very practical information about the diseases for which he advocates, to open himself personally to his readers for the sake of getting his point across. We can picture him with his toy poodle doing his meditation at the top of the drive-around near his home. He is credible as a physician and as a fellow sufferer who understands.
