About the Author
Board certified in family medicine, Ana M. Negron graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School and completed her family practice residency at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has made cooking with patients integral to her practice. Dr. Negron volunteers at a clinic for the uninsured, teaches young physicians the role of food in medicine, and owns a solo nutrition practice.

The recipes are terrific and ones I haven't seen in other books on ...

While being treated for a life threatening illness four years ago, I rededicated myself to healthy eating. Dr. Negron's new book has quickly become a primary reference point to help keep this promise.
The recipes are terrific and ones I haven't seen in other books on healthy eating. They are easy to follow and help the reader create a shopping list that is focused on "A Well Stocked Kitchen" (one of the chapters in Part II).
Don't miss these other chapters: "Experience the Power of Food", "Getting Off Medication", "The Hunger & Obesity Paradox", "Greens on a Budget". This important book will not become obsolete...a true keeper for the kitchen library.

A must read book !

I am very grateful to Dr. Ana Negrón for writing “Nourishing the Body and Recovering Health: The Positive Science of Food.” While start reading the book, I understood the importance to eat better. I immediately, I start buying more greens and grains. I am low in folic acid and my doctor recommended me to eat more greens. Her book is very helpful in providing names for greens and grains that never knew that even exist. It is a friendly user book with colorful photos that help you to visualize her recipes. I love Part 1 and 5. She says “Cooking begins to find a rhythm.” I am beginning to find my rhythm. Preparing and cooking my own food is very therapeutic. I still have to read her book with more attention because it offers a new lifestyle. This book has a lot of advices that comes from her own experience. I have tried several of her delicious recipes: oats with quinoa and fruit, rainbow salad, leafy green stir fry and that wonderful soup “pumpkin, sweet potato, with cashews.” Also, I bake beets. I love baked beets now. I am happy that she decided to share her wisdom with us. My journey just started. I want to continue walking this healthy path.

There are a lot of books out there on why we should all try to adopt a plant-based diet, but this is one of the best. Dr. Negron uses personal anecdotes from her practice, scientific and medical data, and eloquent writing to demonstrate the need for a change in the way we think about food in America and the simplicity of the solution. Reading this book makes you feel like you are being treated by the doctor you have always wanted: compassionate, informed, and able to communicate simply and clearly. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to make a change in their personal dietary habits.
