I'm happy I can loan this eBook because this value is something that should be shared!

This book is so easy to understand and to implement! It's broken down so clearly and in a logical manner using layperson's terms that this content gets a big advantage over heftier reads. Personally I am a health enthusiast and in my free time I read up on current affairs in nutrition and fitness. The volumetrics diet was something new to me and this book is an excellent introduction to the lifestyle. And it's just that: more than a diet. Included are valuable points on troubleshooting the plateau stage as well as what mindset to have. Some important takeaways for staying full that I appreciate are the recommendations to eat more fiber, to choose high protein foods, and to drink a lot of water before and after meals. This is a great handbook loaded with simple suggestions that I find it would be useful to bring to restaurants, grocery stores, farmer's markets, etc.

A to the point book with helpful tips to cure your insomnia

A good read, this book had some interesting tips on curing your insomnia and made me smile while discussing what could potentially be a very serious problem. I can have a hard time relaxing entirely and this book shared some exercises that could help with that. Many of the tips only take minor tweaks to your day to help you sleep better at night.

It also sheds light on the number of small, seemingly insignificant habits we have and do every day that are probably really messing up our sleep period. And messing with our lives in the long run. All in all, this was a good book with common sense information on how to sleep better and, hopefully, cure your insomnia.

Note: The author gives this book a PG-13 rating since a brief section of the content could be considered more mature but it doesn’t go into great detail, so just be aware.

Fun and easy to read!

The book Insomnia by Samantha Jones is a easy and fun guide to follow. It is written in such a way that it is not too scientific yet it refers to studies and research made by those who are sleep experts. The significant advice given is in order to overcome insomnia, first we need to change our lifestyle and sleeping habits. Just so the readers be aware, there's a PG-13 advice on the latter part of the book, don't worry the author didn't go that far detailed about it. I decided to download this book because I thought I'm having sleep problems, then I realized it's all about my lifestyle. Good read!

Recommended read, easy to follow and great advice.

I have always been a lousy sleeper, I noemally go to sleep around 2:00 am and it's so hard for me to wake up early that it hurts. Thanks to this book I have understanded better the benefits of a "normal" sleeproutine and the ways to achieve it. The book is short and written in a funny conversational tone so I was able to read it and grasp all it's information rather quickly. If you're struggling to find a good sleeping habit this might just be the book for you.

Knowing what psychopath is

I don’t know anything about psychopaths. This is my first time to read a book about the topic psychopath. I read this book and it helped me learn what psychopath is and what the different personality disorders of being a psychopath are. This book shows the 10 warning signs to assess if someone may have a psychopath personality. This book provided me with knowledge on how to deal with people who have this disorder. These guides and tips are well explained and are very detailed. Awesome book!

Insightful and intriguing

A disturbing read, that is an eye opener to the behaviour of people with this disorder. We have all heard of instances of terrible things happening, and there are plenty of movies and books that portray the twisted minds of these poor souls, but this book gave sound advice on what to look for if you have any doubts about a partner, now or in the future.
Certainly there is a lot to think about and James seems to have quite a collection of books in this genre available which is great if you want to further expand your knowledge.

Get this book before you run into somebody like the people described inside!

I've had a stalker issue earlier in my life. I wish I had this book back then when I was freshly introduced with this individual, so I could notice all the signs and red flags that would hint me to get the f*** away from this person before things go too deep and involved. This should be something you consult on each and every time you go on a date. Once before the date, once after. If you are living with somebody who's like this, this is a flashlight saying "you need to move out". The book contains overlook on profiles for these people, how to spot them, exit strategies if you are involved with any, and how to keep yourself away from them in case you run into some. Great addition that may just improve, if not - save, your life one day.

About the Author
Dr. Lake is a Board certified psychiatrist in the San Francisco Bay area. He has chaired symposia and workshops on integrative mental healthcare at national and international conferences on non-conventional and integrative mental health care. Dr. Lake was previously a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at Stanford. He founded and chaired the American Psychiatric Association's Caucus on Integrative Medicine from 2004 through 2010. He is a founding member and former chair of the International Network of Integrative Mental Health.  
 
Dr. Lake is the author of a 10-volume series on integrative mental healthcare, self-published in 2015, and the author, co-author or editor of four textbooks on non-conventional mental health care: Chinese Medical Psychiatry: A Clinical Manual, (with Bob Flaws), Blue Poppy Press, 2000; Textbook of Integrative Mental Health Care, Thieme, 2006; and Complementary and Alternative Treatments in Mental Health Care (co-edited with David Spiegel), American Psychiatric Press, 2007, and Integrative Mental Health Care: A Therapist's Handbook, Norton, 2009. Long-standing interests include the role of culture in mental illness, the philosophy and history of medicine, and the role of consciousness and intentionality in healing.

VERY GOOD BEGINNERS GUIDE

As a matter of background, I chair the American Psychiatric Association Caucus on Complementary, Alternative, & Integrative Medicine. The group I chair—its very existence—is credited to its founder, James Lake, MD.

Dr. James Lake and others in the Integrative Psychiatry (or Integrative Medicine in Psychiatry) movement are concerned about the way modern day Psychiatry is practiced. Specifically, the average psychiatrist has been educated extensively on psychiatric medications (which themselves can be quite helpful and life-saving), but received little to no education on non-medication treatment options, other than an Intro to Counseling. Until Integrative Psychiatry groups like mine are successful at improving how Psychiatry is practiced, it is incumbent upon a person suffering from a psychiatric disorder to become self-educated on what the non-medication treatment options are. Your typical psychiatrist is unlikely to know about these treatments and so will be unable to recommend them to you. However, if you implement them on your own, you might ultimately end up needing psychiatric medication less.

Any book within this e-book series is a very good place for a beginner to start their self-education. Each of the books is well-organized and structured similarly. This makes it easy to skip to the section that you are interested in and/or to browse the text rapidly. It is also a quick read, and can be completed in less than two hours.

You can tell that this “publication” has been self-published, as there are areas where e.g. the grammar could have been improved upon. However, it does not interfere with understanding the content in any way. If you can forgive that the book did not pass through the hands of a formal copy-editor, you will find that the content of this book teaches you all of the basic Integrative Psychiatry treatment options that you would want to know.

If after reading this beginners guide you decide you want to become more of an expert, the e-book conveniently offers resources for deeper reading.

Oustanding e-book on depression!

James Lake, MD, a pioneer and leader in the integrative mental health movement, provides a practical guide to integrative and non-medication oriented treatments for depression. Depression is more than routine unhappiness or being discouraged by a bad day. Depression is an illness that can disable human beings from everyday functioning and lead to suicide. Dr. Lake discusses the causes of depression, and warns that anyone currently considering suicide should seek professional help immediately. Lake provides a link to depression inventories useful in rating how severe your depression is. He introduces a variety of non-pharmacological treatments for depression beginning with the most well-documented (Tier A) therapies such as DHEA, exercise, folic acid, SAMe, and St. John’s Wort. He also discusses a broad range of less well-researched (Tier B and Tier C) therapies that can still provide some benefit, such as acupuncture, yoga, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. Dr. Lake discusses how to develop an effective individualized treatment plan for your own depression, and advises when to use self-help and when to consult a professional. I highly recommend Dr. Lake’s e-book on depression for anyone suffering depression, and for those wishing to help loved ones with depression.

    The authors have written a very exceptional workbook to help those individuals with dominant-hand problems regain their writing skills. I believe as the authors do, it is important that individuals utilizing this workbook experience positive outcomes. Each chapter is built off the previous one. I found the exercises and lessons interesting, easy to understand and use.     About the Author
    Katie Yancosek is an officer in the Army Medical Specialist Corps. She graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in occupational therapy and from Eastern Kentucky University with a Master's of Science degree in occupational therapy. She is pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Kentucky. She currently lives in Kentucky with her husband and two sons.

    Kristin Gulick has been enjoying her practice as an Occupational Therapist for 23 years. She graduated from University of Puget Sound and began her practice working with children at Shriner s Hospital in Portland, OR. Kristin s career path led her to focus on rehabilitation of the upper extremity and she became a certified hand therapist in 1996. Currently Kristin serves as the Director of Therapy Services at Advanced Arm Dynamics where she enjoys partnering with clients with upper limb loss in their rehabilitation.

    Pros and cons of starting with cursive

    This review will include why I purchased this book originally, and what I believe are the target audience, the program's strengths, and what I believe are the program's weaknesses.
    Recently, I went through a period of almost 2 months during which I was unable to use my dominant hand at all. As an educator and inveterate note-writer, I quickly realized my loss. Using my education background, I taught myself how to write using my non-dominant hand. By the time my cast came off and I began working with a hand therapist, I was able to communicate by using my non-dominant hand to write pretty well. At some point, I discussed the program I developed for myself with my hand therapist, and we began to discuss the possibility of writing a paper together. Well, first I had to research the available materials. As predicted by my therapist, there is not much available outside of professional articles and textbooks, most of which focus on the process without providing reproducible materials. So, this book was purchased for research purposes.
    In reviewing the book, I found its greatest strength to be that it addressed a problem hand therapists face each day: teaching the adult patient who wants to start with cursive because of a belief that manuscript writing (printing) is for children. For this type of patient, the logic behind building skill and control from the bottom up is irrelevant. This patient cannot get past printing being for children. For this patient, this is an excellent resource.
    The problem with this book is that it starts with cursive, resulting is haphazard development of control over the fine motor skills inherent in manuscript writing programs. Tracing and copying of shapes (squares, rectangles, stars, boxes with diagonal lines, etc.) and activities (such as dot-to-dot drawing, speed exercises, coloring in shapes) help to address the development of control, but the logic of building on skills is lost. The result is that fine motor control is less a process of building one skill on another and more a process of covering the skills as one can. Interestingly, the authors claim that "Cursive writing is easier than printing from motor and perceptual standpoints" because it "diminishes the challenge of having even spaces between printed letters." From my position as an educator as well as someone who has gone through the process of generating legible written communication with the non-dominant hand, cursive is not easier because drawing curves (the primary component of cursive writing) is more difficult than drawing lines, both from a developmental perspective and a personal one. "Perception" may refer to self-perception ("printing is for children"), but it certainly does not refer to legibility. Personally, I would rather someone be able to read what I write (perceive my intent), as legibility development of cursive is much more difficult to achieve than legibility of manuscript forms. For an adult who has not suffered brain injury, letter spacing is a function of fine motor control as well as of perceptual feedback.
    Although the progression from lines of various lengths and orientations to curves of different sizes and degrees of "closedness" may be tedious at first, it is quick and establishes an ability to control the pencil. Since the various lines and curves are immediately succeeded by the practice of (first) upper-case letters that can be formed with them, the refinement of motor skills is continuous. Movement to lower-case characters and numbers is even faster because all lines and curves are basically no more than smaller versions of upper-case elements. These smaller versions continue the progression of fine motor refinement. For the adult, movement into cursive writing is eased by this progression, since legible cursive writing requires much greater fine motor control than does manuscript writing.
    Using traditional methods, my manuscript writing was legible within 2 weeks and "controlled" within 4; cursive writing was legible, with well-formed Palmer-like characters, within 2 more weeks. At the same time, as my fine motor skills developed through handwriting, common tasks such as turning the pages in a book appeared to be eased for my non-dominant hand, and possibly helped with writing control as well.
    Careful study of the exercises in this book suggested to me that my cursive would not have fared so well. However, if I were reluctant to learn manuscript first, this book would definitely have helped me.
    In all, as with any self-help (or therapist-assisted help) publication, the individual must be considered in the selection of materials. Occupational therapists who face clients who insist on starting with cursive and refuse to work with manuscript forms would find this book very helpful.

    i'm no hero, but…

    I just received this book today. I ordered it because I was injured during a shoulder surgery. As a result, I will be without use of my right, or dominance, hand for a period of time ranging from a few weeks to several months. I figured that was enough of a reason to try to learn to write with my left hand. So while I do not fit the profile of the intended user of this book (I am not a hero), I do think it will serve my purposes. I did today's exercises in about an hour. Like other reviewers, I was surprised to see that it has your begin with cursive instead of printing. But I think I understand the logic of that. The book seems to be designed very thoughtfully and credibly. I also like that the sample sentences they give you to write our motivational and aspirational. Might as well transmit a good message to your brain while you're trying to retrain it. I was delighted to see the connect the dots activities… I just wish they were more of them! So I went ahead and bought a kids' connect the dots book. Even if I don't become proficient with my left hand, it will be neat to have this printed record of whatever progress I do make. I am glad this book exists.

    Handwriting made easy

    I would like to thank review the book dot com for a free copy for my review.
    The workbook is a six week program to teach you how to write left handed. I am right handed and enjoyed each of the exercises. I felt like I was in kindergarten when doing the pages because when I write with my right hand it is so easy but when I write with my left hand it was such a challenge. I loved the challenge and took it on and have to admit that I did it faster than I had expected. I also think that it used my brain in a form that I was not aware I had. If someone has an injury to their hand they can use this book to learn how to write again and this is the first book of the kind published. What a great idea!
    I think all doctors' offices, chiropractors, and anyone who helps others with healing from injuries would benefit from this book. Doctors could order in bulk and give them away. I am very impressed with Kathleen E. Yancosek and her idea to publish this one of a kind book on handwriting.
