About the Author
A graduate of Duke University and an interior designer, Andrea Hutton was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 at the age of forty-one. Andrea is now five years out and cancer-free. In addition to continuing her interior design career for select clients, Andrea is a marketing and management consultant. She lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband and two children.

Disclosures: 1) I’m a relative of the author. 2) I have some experience with the subject matter other than the author’s.
On the surface, this is the chronicle of a single individual and her life with breast cancer. The deeper strength of Bald Is Better with Earrings is that it offers an accessible window into the shared experience of dealing with a scary disease.
It’s detailed enough to be informative, but it’s not attempting to be a textbook. It’s not judgmental, gory, or didactic.
It’s personal enough to be entertaining, but it isn’t a self-absorbed memoir.
Every cancer patient’s experience with their own disease and its treatment is unique. Bald Is Better with Earrings shows that “unique” doesn’t have to mean “alone.”

Like a smart girl friend

The best book I've found for getting through a tough year of treatment. I read it multiple times as I progressed through each stage, each chapter. It's like have a girl friend whose already been there and can share some of the secrets of comfort while recognizing some of the craziness--things your doctors don't tell you. I am buying several copies for our local Breast Cancer Resource Center. Thank you, Andrea Hutton
