Regardless of your spiritual tradition and practices, there's probably something here for anyone interested in mudras. From the history of the practice (including the Nritya Shastra and Pranayama) to a detailed overview of the different types of mudras,

I was also impressed at the wide range of applications that are explained here - from anti-ageing to prosperity to fighting depression. Baruwal spends a balanced amount of time describing the physical aspects of the practice, such as the different types of breathing; the psychological aspects, such as concentration, visualization, and affirmation practices; the harmonious aspects, such as how the five elements tie in to the practice; and of course, the spiritual elements as well.

In short, this is a very thorough overview for long time practitioners as well as beginners. Definitely worth more than $0.99!

Great Mudras Book

This is really a great book to start off with when starting out with mudra practice. I am a regular mediator and have found this book to be useful in enchancing my practice. The book is well-written, easy to follow and the illustrations are clear. This book will indeed change the way of losing weight. Add it up to all of your diet books, exercise and I guarantee a much progress. With mudras, you do not need a specific location as it can be carried out anywhere and at anytime. The author did a great job. I highly recommend.

I have read before that Mudras can be an effective help in losing weight, but this book has enlightened me to a different benefit that it can give--to radiate energy, love, and serenity. I think this is such an inspiring book, motivating and full of wise tips too. We need this kind of book especially now that times are hard and stress is always here. This book is not only about weight loss, but also to a healthier life. As I have read on Grain Brain and Brain Maker, your health depends on what goes on in your guts. Thus, it is important to eat healthy foods.

I gave it a star since I got this book when it was free. It earned another star for a good introduction and well-researched chapters to introduce the need for a healthy gut.There are several research studies which have proven the link between the type of bacteria in our guts and our body weight. Also, the food that you do not eat is just as important as the ones you include in your regular diet. Well said.
More stars for the recipes. I love these healthy recipes. They are easy to prepare and delicious. I personally like the Oriental Tofu, Mushroom and Onion Kebab. I would love them more if there are pictures. I would be glad to pay for this book. Worth every penny.

Filled with Great Recipes and Information!

I love the way the author explains good bacteria and bad bacteria and how a proper balance in your gut is really, the key to optimal health. I was surprised to learn about Bilophilia and how increasing levels cause inflammation. Reading the first part of the book inspired me to want to take immediate action and try some of the recipes which were delicious (Absolute faves - the pumpkin seed & broccoli pesto, spaghetti squash with basil and creamy cauliflower alfredo sauce, parchment salmon and asparagus and the grasshopper shake). Knowing that I am eating in a way which benefits my gut makes me feel in more control of my own health and wellness. A great read!

Informational Gut Balance Recipe Book

Gut Balance?! I'm a sucker for diet recipes and honestly this was the first time I ever heard about Gut Balance recipes, I got curious and bought this book. The introduction didn't give much info about what Gut Balance is but Chapter 1 did the job. According to this book, or as per what I understand the bacterias that live inside our stomach also aid in weight loss. Having an inconsiderably large amount bad bacterias can make us crave for the wrong food thus making us gain more weight. Chapter 1 are full of information that can help you understand better about these Gut Balance and the science behind it. It was really worth the read. It also includes advices and tips on what to eat and what not to eat when you are under this diet.

Now for the list of recipes inside this book. Recipes covered everything from appetizers, sauces and condiments, main dishes, fruit and veggies and even juices and smoothies which I personally love! I actually tried out the grasshopper shake today and DAYUM! But, I was a bit taken aback by how the book was poorly formatted and it wasn't really nice to look at, but that aside, each recipes sounds delicious and can't wait to try them out. Directions are in step by step and easy to follow and understand and since I also love pretty images, I wished that the author did produce and effort to supply each recipes an image, which unfortunately did not.

All in all, If you're like me who is collecting diet recipes to try, then this book is a good catch.

Barbara J. Hensley, EdD, is a Clinical Counselor in Cincinnati, Ohio and a Board-Certified Diplomate for the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. She served on the EMDR International Association Board of Directors as president and treasurer and has represented EMDRIA in Stockholm, Sweden and Brussels, Belgium. She is an EMDRIA-Certified Therapist, and Approved Consultant, and Regional Coordinator for the Greater Cincinnati Regional Network.

Essential reading on the path to become a master EMDR therapist

As an EMDR therapy clinician, consultant, and trainer, I read everything I can get my hands on to expand and deepen my understanding of how to practice EMDR therapy with clients and how to teach therapists to integrate EMDR therapy effectively in their work. I have been recommending Dr. Hensley's first (2009) edition of this book for years. I have often used it as a foundational text in my EMDR consultation groups. The second edition (2015) is FAR superior to the earlier text; and I recommend it to all EMDR trained clinicians, consultants, and trainers. My review of this book is written specifically with the EMDR therapy practitioner, consultant and trainer in mind.

Of course, Dr. Francine Shapiro's 2001 text is a rich source of information for the EMDR therapist, but I find Dr. Hensley's new book much more readable and practical. It provides up to date information on the Adaptive Information Processing theory that guides EMDR clinicians in understanding their client's difficulties and a comprehensive treatment plan. The book includes detailed information about all eight phases of EMDR therapy, and how to identify and resolve not only the past memories that are contributing to the client's problems, but also how to work the situations that continue to trigger problematic responses ("present triggers"); and how to install positive templates for future action.

When things don’t progress in EMDR therapy as you would expect, you will find rich guidance in chapter four. Dr. Hensley addresses intense emotional responses and blocked processing - including an expanded use of the cognitive interweave. Master clinicians Deany Laliotis and Deborah Korn contributed specific, detailed suggestions in this chapter, grounded in both theory and experience, to facilitate processing when the information contained in a client’s memory networks isn’t moving as efficiently we hope it could. You’ll find suggestions for interweaves that progress from the “lightest touch” possible to more active interventions. Included in this section is helpful information about recognizing and working with clients with more complex histories who present with less stable ego strength, affect tolerance, and internal and external resources, including how relationally focused interweaves can be effective.

One of the greatest misunderstandings in EMDR therapy is a belief that clearing the past alone will resolve a client's current symptoms. From the beginning, Dr. Shapiro has taught the importance of working not only with the past experiences, but also the current situations that continue to create difficulties, as well as the client's expectations for the future. Throughout the text, an understanding of how and why to address all three prongs (past, present, and future) is described, with rich clinical examples. Included is clearly written guidance on the use of the Future Template to increase skills, hope, coping and resiliency in our clients.

Those trained by Dr. Francine Shapiro's training organization, the EMDR Institute, or it's non-profit sister organization, Trauma Recovery EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program, will be pleased to find a text that is consistent with their basic training and expands on what was covered in the basic training manual and lecture. Those trained years ago will be pleased to see how our understanding, application, and teaching of EMDR therapy has evolved over the years. Those trained by other EMDRIA Approved EMDR basic training organizations will benefit greatly from this "back to the basics" resource. All will learn how to practice EMDR therapy with fidelity to the protocols while guided by the Adaptive Information Processing theory. This book will teach you the skills of a master EMDR therapist, but more importantly, it will teach you how to -think- like a master EMDR therapist.

An EMDR Therapy Primer: From Practicum to Practice (2015) provides a blend of text, useful tables, clinical examples, and scripts - focusing not only on the reprocessing phases of EMDR therapy, but also treatment planning and re-evaluation, preparation and resourcing strategies. This is a must read for every EMDR trained clinician, EMDR therapy consultation group, consultant, and trainer.

2nd Edition is More Like a Brand New Book that You Won't Want to Miss

Even if you have already profited from the 1st edition of this book, this 2nd edition is like having a completely separate text for your professional library. It is much longer than the 1st edition because it reflects the immense amount of information more recently added to EMDR Therapy and expands upon critical techniques that support client/patient success. For example, the multipage explanation and “how to” charts throughout the book are invaluable - you will treasure those on how to precisely use interweaves (cognitive, somatic, imaginal, etc.) according to precise categories of clients’ needs and their present experience. You will be able to access the research that supports your chosen interventions. Reading and studying this text will provide you with the complete knowledge of the why, when, and how of what you are doing with clients and within the therapeutic relationship at all times. This text will assist you in working with people with complex presentations and keep you grounded in the most efficient and effective interventions in each passing moment. I am grateful I did not pass by this book because I had already profited by the first edition. This book offers too much to miss!

Leifer, a health-care administrator and founder of the Leifer Report, has written an informative guidebook for that journey, intended to help patients 'navigate a complex health-care system, feel empowered to make astute decisions at difficult junctures, and manage the emotional turbulence along the way.' Chapters cover choosing doctors, managing pain and side effects, using complementary therapies, surviving cancer, choosing to stop treatment, death and dying, and more. Leifer focuses on information to support decision making, offering lists of questions to ask providers and quotes from research findings and patients and caregivers. He offers information that is balanced and medically sound: for example, he describes a valid role for complementary therapies while condemning quackery. . . . VERDICT Recommended for medically literate cancer patients who want to make well-informed decisions about their treatments. (Library Journal)

There were many things I appreciated about After You Hear It's Cancer, including its ability to give factual information without too much jargon and to clearly define the acronyms that are so common and confusing in health care. It is rare to find a book that speaks so clearly to such a variety of constituents, and it would have great value to health care workers, patients and families/caregivers along the whole cancer journey. . . . [E]ach chapter can stand alone and would benefit an individual wherever he or she is on the entire spectrum of dealing with cancer. . . . I think a word to describe After You Hear It's Cancer as a whole would be 'empowering.' . . . Suggestions regarding getting psychological help, either as a patient or a caregiver, are presented in a very positive manner and not as something to pursue because you are a failure in the realm of cancer care. I think the authors strike a good balance between giving information, providing encouragement and normalizing a situation that can feel out of control. I definitely want to call attention to the last part of the book — what a wealth of solid, practical information. Sources used for the book are well documented and offer credibility to the work, but perhaps even more important is that the sources can be a lifeline to more information if desired by professionals, patients and caregivers. The resource section, bibliography and index also offer many paths to in-depth information, which for some cancer patients and caregivers is an essential part of their cancer journey. After I finished reading the book, I went through the index and found the topics very helpful for reviewing some areas I found particularly informative or challenging. This book would be very appropriate in a waiting room, in a health care professional's office or to have at home as a valuable source of information. As the cancer journey continues, different topics take on added meaning — at the start, treatment options would be a priority, but later on, the information on being a survivor would be of greater value. Some cancer journeys also will require information on palliative care, hospice services and other end-of-life considerations, all of which are covered, as well. LORI LINDSTROM LEIFER, MD, is both a cancer doctor and a cancer patient. As a radiation oncologist, she has provided care to cancer patients for the past twenty-five years. You Don't Have to Fear the C Word

The C word strikes fear initially. Once it has sunk in, the emotions are often mixed with both confusion as well as moments of clarity about what life is really about. Calling it a "life changing experience," author John Leifer shares from the heart about his journey with his wife, who was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer. Like what his wife felt about encountering cancer for the first time, the feeling is one of being overwhelmed and shut down. Making decisions about what to do next becomes an even greater challenge with stress and anxiety swirling around. Quoting Karen Sepucha of Harvard Medical School, it is a common scenario that even those who had overcome past challenges will find it difficult to help themselves. That is why people with cancer need support. That is why families of cancer patients need help. That is why books like this is a valuable resource to help deal with the difficult path carved by the news of cancer.

In writing this book, senior health executive and author John Leifer hopes to empower readers toward better decision making when hearing news about cancer. He guides us through the experiences of ten individuals plus his wife Lori, to give us a first person account of the long and difficult journey. He leads us through the BEFORE-DURING-AFTER phases of cancer treatments.

The BEFORE stage starts with the initial diagnosis and treatment planning. Get the accurate diagnosis. Be aware of the five categories of cancer, and to seek expert advice on which is directly affecting the patient. Learn about the different test types: Physical; Lab; Diagnostic Imaging; Biopsy; genetic Testing. Identify the actual cancer type. Find the stage as accurately as possible. Without the initial diagnosis, it is hard to work out prognosis (predicting the development and working out the next best steps). Learn as much as possible and if needed, find out how much truth physicians are keeping from us. Finding the right doctor is one of the most important decisions ever to make. Know the role of the oncologist, the clinic's reputation, the health system, the cancer specialist hospitals, and so on. Make sense of the treatments before choosing the most appropriate. Understand the place and purpose of clinical trials and adjust our expectations accordingly. Often, a second opinion is needed.

The DURING stage is a result of the decisions made earlier. At this point, the path has already been set. Emotionally it will be a roller-coaster experience. There will be times where things seem to be getting worse and also times when hope sings louder than all. There will be anxiety and depression interrupted by periodic times of gladness for family and friends. Leifer perceptively points out that some people do encounter greater difficulty than most. They would need additional support to walk them through the various distress levels. Some positive helps include:

Physical exercise to help deal with body and emotional stresses
Quietness and Contemplation to strengthen our inner selves
Journaling to express our state of mind and emotions
Gratitude for our blessings and gladness for support groups

We learn about how to minimize the side effects of treatment, like fatigue, hair loss, physical pain, appetite, and others. At the same time, we get many tips about what to eat. The ABCs of nutrition is one example. Often, patients need guidance on the best menu for their daily needs. Pain as a "fifth vital sign" is actually a sign of health and well-being. Leifer finds it helpful to know the following about pain.

"It is usually a signal that body tissue is being injured in some way, and it generally disappears when the injury heals. Chronic pain may range from mild to severe, and is present to some degree for longer periods of time (generally lasting longer than three to six months). Because pain is unique to each individual, a person’s pain cannot be evaluated by someone else."

When insufficient, patients need to work with their doctors again on the next steps. With cancer often an incurable disease, no treatment is ever guaranteed. For some, cancer will never go away, no matter the treatment. The "Middle Stage" of cancer is a way of describing a person's journey mid-way through cancer. At this stage, it can go either way: For better or for worse. It is a delicate place to be in, with hope and disappointment keeping each other at bay. There are notes about life after surviving cancer. There are difficult decisions to make about lifestyle changes. Some may need to slow down their pace of life. Others go on to palliative or hospice care. The final chapter about the end of life can look depressing at first, but it is an extremely practical way to deal with a real problem.

I find the last chapter particularly touching, with the author's wife, Lori writing a brief note about her own journey through cancer treatment. It is not giving advice. It is about the sharing of her struggles and the hope that she gives that makes it so inspiring. The authors do not write this book from an ivory tower perspective. They have shared with us their stories of how cancer had impacted their lives, what we can learn from their experiences, how we can deal with our own situations, and many more. This book is one of the best guides I have ever read with regards to cancer treatments and dealing with them. From beginning to end, from diagnosis to prognosis, before, during, and after the treatment, almost every stone was turned to reveal the deep seated complexities. Cancer is not simply a six letter word to be feared. It is a life-changer. It is test of human resilience. It is an opportunity for us to find out the worst of the disease and the best of the human spirit. Take heart. You don't have to fear the C word.

SMALL GROUP RESOURCE

As a leader of cancer support groups, I highly recommend this book as a great resource. The book's structure into three parts lends itself as an outstanding study and reflection guide. It is a resource that also benefits the family and friends of those with cancer. One of the best therapeutic processes of small groups is story telling. John and his wife Lori offer their story and journey with caring concern and significant understanding. The book is packed with authentic stories and antidotes of so many others, as well. The index and the bibliography are excellent and comprehensive for anyone taking this study seriously.

Outstanding guide to the healthcare maze

I received this book a few days after I received my own diagnosis of cancer. The most helpful aspect of this book is that it looks at the care not only through the patient's eyes but also through the caregiver's perspective. It is easily understandable by a layperson and provides a logical map to work your way through the healthcare maze. This book has been a godsend to me and I highly recommend it to anyone dealing with cancer in their life or those of their family.

Complete beginner's guide to South Beach Diet

This short book gives you some delicious and healthy south beach recipes and also the instructions are very detailed. The book does not provide TOC which makes it difficult to go through the book. The book helps you understand the concept of CARBS and will teach you how to cut the proportions and the carbs. The book has been divided into three phases and has discussed each recipe in detail. I like the Asian Turkey Meatballs in Lettuce Cups. The book is easy to follow and the book itself is very easy to read.

Practical Tips for Decluttering Daily

I really enjoy all of Steve's books. His style of writing is very practical and easy to understand, and the steps he lays out in his books are easy to implement. This book was no different. He and Barrie clearly lay out a practical, easy way to declutter your house in just ten minutes a day by creating a decluttering habit. There are multiple tips for establishing this habit as part of your daily routine. The second half of the book talks about how to actually declutter different areas of the house, which is very helpful if you don't know where to start or you want some practical tips on how to declutter one area, like the kitchen.

I bought the book yesterday and implemented it right away. While I was cooking dinner, I cleaned out one cupboard.

Overall, this was an easy and great read. If you want practical ideas for getting rid of clutter, I would highly recommend this book.

The book you need but don't know you need!

I guess it depends where you live... declutter/unhoarding, I think they're the same thing and I'm raising my hand to admit I'm unfortunately a hoarder, much to my husband's distress! I can totally relate to most of the "8 Reasons Why You Haven't Decluttered", in particular point's 2, 3, 7 and 8. Eek, I never thought I'd actually relate to so many when I first opened the book...

My fave chapter is the one called "How to Cash-in with Your Clutter" because it makes me feel better knowing that I'm not losing money and that those items I've held onto for so long can be of use to someone else.

I love the conversational tone of the book and the way it's split into sections, making it easy to just jump straight to the areas you need to fix immediately, without having to wade through the entire book.

Barrie and SJ know their stuff!

Wow! Great title and book from the "Habit Guru" S.J. Scott and Barrie Davenport. If you have some clutter at your house like I do--you need this book, '10-Minute Declutter: The Stress-Free Habit For Simplifying Your Home'. In reading this book I found some real gems about taking care of some problem areas in my office with strategies that will make the job easily manageable in 10 minute increments. Scott and Davenport give clear and concise actionable strategies anyone can implement in short bursts of time. In this book, I learned that with daily decluttering habits, mindset and commitment any clutter can be tackled and order can be restored--here's an action plan to get it done! The authors cover 14 benefits of decluttering, why we hold on to our possessions, how to cash in on our clutter, how to form a decluttering habit in 8 steps, and creating rewards for your success, the best room to start in, 15 questions to ask as you declutter, such as 'Do I already own something similar?" Something I never thought about is covered very well in this book-How to Stage Your Declutter Habit--and supplies to buy to begin that will make you more effective. What I really love is the detail checklist for each room and how to tackle it, such as kitchens and maybe keeping your counters unclutter free zones, how to declutter the laundry room and sorting kids toys-that's a big one at our house. I'm going to start with their suggestion for the desk and using "zones" and digitizing important papers easily. Great book for anyone who has gathered a small amount of clutter all the way to the well-cluttered home. I highly recommend this new habit book from S.J Scott and Barrie Davenport to those who can't even begin to declutter but who long to make better use of their space. It's a shame that nothing was mentioned about Dress or 'Tease and Denial', which are two very important ingredients in the FLR equation.
